Norma Davis was born in
London and became "stage struck" while living near
Wolverhampton in a house full of aunts, uncles and cousins.
All the children would dress up and act in Pantomimes, although,
not being small and blond, Norma never realised her ambition
to be cast as the Fairy Princess.
At 15 she wanted to attend drama school but parental pressure
sent her into a scientific career instead and she had to content
herself with joining the dramatic club run by the hospital she
worked in.
A period of employment
in India followed and it took only 24 hours from her arrival
there to be cast as an extra in "The Man Born To Be King".
This was followed by a part as a hula dancer and she still remembers
the blisters from sewing a grass skirt!
After finishing her contract
in India, Norma decided to try life in Australia, where, unfortunately
for her (and for theatre) her acting was curtailed by the need
to juggle a career with marriage and motherhood.
It was in 1986 that she found out
about the Melville Theatre Company and was immediately snapped
up by our founder, David Burton, for a part in "My Three
Angels".
The rest, of course, is history. Norma has been a (very) active
member of the Company ever since and, apart from her numerous
stage appearances has served on the Committee in just about
every capacity, including President, Secretary, Treasurer and
Publicity Officer. In recognition of her dedication and commitment
to MTC she is also one of our Life Members, an honour granted
to few.
Thank you, Norma, for all
your hard work.
