Featured Member - February 2003
This month we are featuring
Margaret Amour. Originally a native of Whitley Bay in England,
Margaret came to Australia in 1959.
Her introduction to Melville occurred when she came to see our
production of Fiddler On The Roof. She was so impressed
she decided to join the Company and soon found herself thrown
in at the deep end doing Props, a task which is not easy in
amateur theatre when one may be called upon to provide anything
from a grand piano to a little known cocktail for onstage consumption.
To the uninitiated the latter task may seem simple but you can
be sure there will be someone in the audience who knows
exactly what it should look like! To her eternal credit, Margaret
performed this demanding job beautifully and never let the actors
down.
Deciding she needed a break
from Props, Margaret volunteered to be our Front-of House Manager,
a position she fills to this day. She has never appeared on
stage for MTC but her smiling face is well known to all our
patrons, presiding behind the kitchen counter and dispensing
drinks, chips and chocolates. She is also well known to all
our members, due to her phone calls starting with, "How
are you?" and quickly progressing to ,"I need someone
Front-of-House on Opening Night."
