Featured Member - February 2005

Our
featured member for February 2005 is Luci Van den Berg.
Luci, (short for Lucienne) was born in the Netherlands and came
to Australia with her family at the age of 11, settling in rural
Victoria. She was painfully shy and didn't speak a word of English
when she arrived here, which rather put a damper on the acting
ambitions she had held from an early age. She did obtain a part
in the chorus of a school production of "The Wizard of
Oz" when she was 13 and found to her delight that she wasn't
shy at all on stage! It was such a good feeling that she wanted
to get back on stage as soon as possible but unfortunately,
she found no further opportunities for acting in the area where
she lived.
It
wasn't until she moved to Perth five years ago that she decided
she was finally going to do something about her desire to be
involved with theatre. Again this had to be shelved when she
landed a job in a Gold Mine and had to work away from the city
for two weeks at a time.
Finally Luci had had enough of waiting for her dream and, quitting
her Goldfields job she looked for work in Perth. She was successful
and, within a month of leaving the mines, she was on stage,
appearing as Julie in The Sex Life of Snails as part of Melville's
2003 One-Act Season. Since then she has appeared in a lead role
for Melville ( The Killing of Sister George) and has broadened
her horizons by appearing in plays for Harbour Theatre too.
In addition, Luci regularly works Front of House for Melville
and enjoys being part of the Melville Theatre Company. She hopes
to be involved with Melville for many years to come. And we
hope so too, Luci! Thank you for all your efforts on our behalf.
