Featured Member - January 2005

The
featured member for January 2005 is Lina Adam.
Born
in Italy, Lina arrived in Australia at the tender age of nine
and, being unable to speak any English, she was placed in a
class 2 years below her age in Primary School. She did well
in maths, sewing and anything that didn't require a thorough
knowledge of the language but was determined to move up to her
correct grade. All through her summer holidays she worked on
her English with the help of a friend and was able to march
up to the Principal at the start of the next school year and
demand to be upgraded to her age group!
This
kind of determination to succeed carried through the rest of
her life and she later combined marriage and motherhood with
a variety of career moves that saw her in Pharmacy, owning her
own restaurant and finally as a language teacher and advisor.
She
had no special interest in theatre until her daughter, at the
age of two, decided she was going to become an actress. From
then on it was a constant round of drama classes, singing classes,
dancing classes and performances - so I guess she had
to become interested in theatre!
Although
she has not "trod the boards" herself since her days
at University where she qualified as a drama teacher among other
skills, Lina has been a member of Melville since 1992. Apart
from helping out with make-up from time to time she has worked
Front of House on many occasions, enthusiastically attended
many Melville productions and has willingly put up with her
husband, Vic, trying to learn lines!
Thank you for your contribution to MTC Lina!
