Featured Member - March 2005

Dawn
Murray gets the baton as our featured member for March 2005.
Dawn hails from Latrobe, near Devenport in Tasmania and was
first introduced to theatre when, as a University student trying
to augment her income, she got a part-time job as a stage hand
at the Theatre Royal in Hobart. She loved the challenge of remaining
behind the scenes while ensuring that a production went smoothly
and has been involved in that aspect of theatre ever since.
Acting
has never appealed to Dawn but after her graduation as a teacher
she remained involved in theatre, both amateur and semi-professional.
She developed an interest in writing and has written many short
plays for performance by school students. These include more
than a dozen musical comedies, some of which are still performed
regularly in schools all over the country.
In
recent years she became interested in producing and successfully
produced two plays, Black Rock and No Sugar
for the Bunbury Entertainment Centre, with Allan Hughes as the
Artistic Director.
Now
happily involved with Melville, Dawn has done some valuable
directing work for our Company and we hope she will continue
to do so for many years to come.
As
an interesting footnote - Dawn has an unusual claim to fame.
No less a theatrical legend than Laurence Olivier once made
her a cup of tea! While he was appearing at the Theatre Royal
in Hobart, he rescued Dawn as she was about to fall off a ladder
and made her a cuppa to calm her shaken nerves.
