Featured Member - November 2003

Did you recognise her?
Our featured member for November 2003 is Barbara Lovell.
An import from the Eastern States, Barbara was born in Canberra
and moved to WA when she was 18 months old on her father's transfer
to the position of Sub-Collector of Customs in Geraldton. Her
first starring role was as a ballet dancer at the tender age
of 6, complete with tutu and missing front teeth! Along with
other young dancers she graced the "Miss Sunshine"
float in a Sunshine Festival Parade.
In later years, at High
School, Barbara fell in love with two men ..... named Gilbert
and Sullivan ..... and appeared in the chorus of Pirates
of Penzance where she was the envy of all the other girls
as "her" Pirate was the handsomest boy in school.
She is still involved with G&S as a member of Triune Music
Society.
Barbara joined MTC at its
inception, playing a nun in The Sound of Music. Her
next role was as a "hooker" in a Tennesee Williams
play so you can't say she's not versatile! She has appeared
in many straight and musical roles in Melville's productions
and, being one of that rare breed who actually enjoys
Stage Management, she has filled that role on innumerable occasions,
even winning 2 awards for Best Stage Manager at State Drama
Festivals.
A tireless worker for Melville
Theatre Company, Barbara has served on the Committee almost
continuously for many years and is one of our Life Members.
She says she loves being involved with Melville and thinks we
are a great bunch of people. Well we think you are a pretty
great person too Barbara. Thanks for everything!
