Featured Member - February 2004

This month we have a bit
of a change. After featuring many of our long-term members over
the past year or so, we start off February 2004 with a relative
newcomer to Melville Theatre Company.
Amy Tyers, 22, began dancing from a very early age, and it wasn't
long before she moved into acting as well. With a classical
background and all sorts of different experience since, she
joined Melville Theatre Company only after making a promise
to Penny McBurney on Penny’s final birthday.
Amy began her journey with MTC by auditioning for “The
Liver Birds” in 2003. Unsuccessful with a role, she tried
again, to be met with an opportunity to join the cast of the
one-act play “Monday to Friday”, playing the small,
but crucial role of ‘Friday’. Most of you, however,
will probably remember her best as the Choreographer (plus an
actor / singer / dancer) for 2003’s musical show of “Cole”.
Amy is currently trying her hand at props with Val’s witty
play, “The Cemetery Club”, beginning at the end
of January, 2004.
Life
has not all been straight sailing for Amy… Following two
years travelling around the UK working as a professional dancer
and choreographer, she returned to Australia to build her current
home, an animal haven in South Lake. During construction of
the house, an emergency appendicectomy left Amy on life-support
for two months, and bed-ridden for just over a year. Medically
induced morphine addiction, a partial stroke and countless doctors
and medications later, Amy finally arose from her bed, and rejoined
the living, and so we welcome this Phoenix into MTC!
Her next adventure? Studying BioMedical science this year to
move into Veterinary Science and a brand new career… all
of which will make her 6 cats, dog, sheep, ferrets, birds, bandicoots
and other native rehabilitation patients very happy!
Hope to see you on stage
again very soon Amy!
